What to expect at the practice of Dr. kinney

Welcome to practice of Brian M. Kinney, M.D. a board-certified plastic surgeon, whose office is located in the Century City Medical Plaza immediately adjacent to the Century City Hospital building at the corner of Century Park East Boulevard and Olympic Boulevard. We are delighted you are considering us as providers for the plastic surgery procedure you have in mind. As you may already know, the choice of the plastic surgeon is the most important step to achieving the excellent results you want for your appearance. Tremendous amounts of work, time and study are necessary for a plastic surgeon to develop the skills in the care you receive. It requires a total of about 14 years of highly specialized training after college to meet the many requirements for board certification by the American Board of Plastic Surgery. Moreover, above and beyond the qualifications and advanced degrees, you must find someone with whom you can easily communicate so that trust, comfort and the utmost confidence are maintained.

Plastic Surgery

Plastic surgery is partially the art and science of restoring the form and function to people, to make them whole again after traumas like anomalies of birth, burns, accidents or cancer. The other part of the profession is also dedicated to changing body parts that function well enough but lack an aesthetic or pleasing appearance. When that appearance is surgically rejuvenated, it leads to an improved self-image and more confidence for the patient.

Undergoing a surgical procedure can be somewhat stressful beforehand and during the healing phase but is also uplifting, exciting and rewarding when healed. By the way, the word "plastic" comes to us from the Greek "plastikos" which means to mold, shape or give form and should not be confused with the synthetic material plastic.

Office Staff and Appointments

Our staff is here to serve you, make you as comfortable as possible and answer all your questions. We provide you the highest quality care and make sure your entire journey -- from initial consultation to the surgery to final result -- is the best experience possible. Moreover, we strive to resolve problems as they develop. Except in emergencies, patients are seen by appointment only between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Appointments are required for new consultations, surgery and post-op visits. But, sometimes, unavoidable delays happen due to prolonged surgery or sudden emergencies. If that happens, we will make every effort to contact you as soon as possible; we know your time is valuable.

For appointments, consultations, insurance and general information, please ask for our front office staff. For medical questions and minor post-operative problems, our certified surgical technician or nurse will help you. For surgery scheduling, detailed information about surgery, arranging for tests and x-rays and financial matters please ask for the office manager. We look forward to serving you.

Emergencies

By keeping in close touch with Dr. Kinney, emergencies can almost always be avoided. A qualified physician is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, all year long by calling our regular office telephone. If your medical problem is an extreme emergency, call 911 or go immediately to the nearest hospital emergency room.

Telephone Calls, Office Visits and Prescriptions

Other than emergencies, routine calls are answered by our nurses. That allows the doctor to spend uninterrupted time with the patients who have scheduled appointments. Moreover, it is generally not possible to perform a consultation or make a diagnosis over the telephone and is certainly not possible to examine a patient or practice the best medicine over the telephone.

New prescriptions and prescription refills are issued only during office hours. At night, holidays and weekends, the doctor does not have access to your medical records. As a matter of policy, we do not refill prescriptions when we do not have complete medical information on a patient's condition.

Hospitals

Dr. Kinney is on staff at many of the major hospitals on the west side of Los Angeles, including Cedars-Sinai, Century City, Olympia Medical Center and St. John's Hospital.  He is a former Chief of Plastic Surgery at Century City Hospital for many years and was the Clinical Chief of Hand Surgery at Cedars-Sinai Hospital for many years as well.
